It echoes the findings of official lifestyle studies showing that, far from the popular caricature of binge drinking youths, younger people have led the way in cutting back their alcohol intakes while middle aged and elderly people continue to ignore health warnings.Probably because they’ve seen so many come and go and contradict themselves that they aren’t quite so quick to knuckle under and accept the ‘wisdom’ of the medical profession as the youngsters…

Why is intolerance of certain lifestyles; such as obesity and high consumption of alcohol/drugs so prevalent now when historically it has never been?
The answer is quite simple. Previously the cost of a bad lifestyle was born by that person. Now the cost has been collectivised and born by all so groups have grown up resenting paying for other groups bad lifestyles and so clamour for all to have a lifestyle that they deem is appropriate;of the least cost to them.
Socialist and lefty ideologies therefore do not achieve that which they set out to achieve without considerable cost to the freedom of the individual and therefore democracy and liberty.
The best evidence can be seen and heard on re-cycling days. I happened to be walking down our road while the glass was being loaded into the truck. I know that you can get other stuff in glass packaging, but these weren't the sort of people who buy dolmio or nutella.
As for the younger generation, they don't seem to get their stomachs pumped as much as mine did, or maybe they just don't do that anymore.
I'll drink to that.
Good point, Antisthenes.
You may have noticed that The Telegraph is a bit obsessed with alcohol.
Julia, your analysis is spot on. As are the comments.
It takes about fifteen years of serious drinking to run into potentially lifethreatening problems like cirrhosis and shortterm memory loss, if you are genetically susceptible. Once the children are fledged why on earth wouldn't the previously abstemious want to eat, drink and be merry? You could die of cancer or heart disease before the alcohol gets you.

It's about 'risk assessment', then? ;)
