Taking The Fight To The Enemy...

...at last!

It is understood that the government is increasingly blocking reappointments to public sector roles to bring in new individuals to organisations.

And the progressives are fighting back with all they pos...

Oh, wait. No, they aren't. They are flouncing out!

Sir Charles Dunstone, the founder of Carphone Warehouse, reportedly resigned from the Royal Museums Greenwich board after the culture secretary, Oliver Dowden, refused to reappoint trustee Dr Aminul Hoque, an education academic at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Heh! Who knew it would be that easy?

Following the Black Lives Matter protests last summer, Dowden threatened to cut funding to museums and galleries that removed statues associated with British colonialism. In a warning to institutions last October, Dowden wrote: “As publicly funded bodies, you should not be taking actions motivated by activism or politics. The significant support that you receive from the taxpayer is an acknowledgment of the important cultural role you play for the entire country.”

Gosh! Bare your teeth for once, and the opposition crumbles, or runs away!

Peter Riddell said earlier this week that the government had “actively sought to appoint allies to the boards of public bodies” over the past 18 months. “This is not the first time this has happened. Such attempts tend to go in waves,” Riddell said. “What is different now is the breadth of the campaign and the close engagement of 10 Downing Street.

Isn't it nice to be on the winning side for once?

I've just looked up Sir Charles Dunstone's Wiki page and his history strikes me as one of a hard nosed businessman, rather than that of an academic SJW. It seems to me to be very odd that someone of this business background should cleave so strongly to causes, BLM et al, that are antithetical to the idea of running a profitable business.

There are some aspects of his career, such as his involvement with the Prince's Trust (which is probably stuffed with middle class SJW's), that could explain why he's succumbed to the SJW mob by supporting a colleague who supports policies that are not shared by many Britons, but resigning in this way and for this reason does appear to be very odd and not a hill that someone of his background would choose to die on.

You would think wouldn't you that someone so aware of things like audience and market would be quite happy that the Govt is at last standing up to the grossly unrepresentative SJW cultists?

I refer the honourable member to this quote:

Sibelius: "Musicians talk of nothing but money and jobs Give me businessmen every time. They really are interested in music and art."

There are some lovely quotes from the world of music:

Stravinsky "Harpists spend 90% of their lives tuning their harps and 10% playing out of tune"

Richard Srauss, on conducting: "Never look at the trombones, it only encourages them"

Beethoven to another composer: "I like your opera, I think I will set it to music"

And, of course Said to a female cellist:

"Madam, you have between your legs an instrument capable of giving pleasure to thousands- and all you can do is scratch it"

Sir Thomas Beecham, conductor

Thomas Beecham described the sound of a harpsichord as being like someone hitting a bird cage with a toasting fork.

The great things about jobs for the boys is that you can be sure to get any result you require if there is ever any inquiry or such like. UK has run on this system for generations, its a sort of reverse Robin Hood. They take from the poor and give it to the rich.

There may be more to the story than meets the eye; it's from a newspaper, so it might have been butchered by a sub-editor more concerned with column inches than retaining the sense of the piece. Also, it's from the Guardian ...

Barbarus, you may be correct that this may well be the Guardian spinning the story to fit their own agenda and that there may well be more to this than meets the eye, such as some personal conflict between the individual and the minister concerned. However the timing of the resignation coming so soon after the SJW was not reappointed does look odd and quite possibly related.

Sir Charles may well be sound and driven only by the desire to do good but he's probably surrounded by SJW's who are possibly having undue influence on him maybe by giving the impression that only their way is acceptable or effective. It's also quite possible that the entity doesn't have any intellectual and viewpoint diversity in its management and Sir Charles has been politically outmanouvered in a similar way to how the progressive educationalists outwitted, by fair means and foul, every one of Margaret Thatcher's Education Secretaries.

It's a bit like 'Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers', isn't it?

Indeed!
