You Really, Really Can't Make It Up Any Longer...

During the trial, the court heard Le Moine had an IQ of just 84, relied heavily on his mother to help him out with letters, struggled to read and had memory problems.
His job?

Essex PCSO.
Roger Grimwade, a police spokesman, said there were no formal educational requirements, but applicants must satisfy an entry procedure.
And that is...?

Checking they have a pulse, presumably.

Oh, and the offence for which he was on trial? Driving without insurance:
The 22-year-old of Buckfast Avenue, Kirby Cross, was involved in a car crash in February 2008 when he was driving without insurance.

He told police he was insured and took an insurance certificate to a police station which he knew was invalid, the court found.

He denied the charge on the grounds his dyslexia affected his ability to take things in and remember them, which was why he had failed to register he was not insured, despite speaking to insurer Direct Line a week earlier.
*sigh*

This is high quality material. An IQ of 84 equips him to:
1. Fix epaulettes to his uniform.
2. Remember not to leave the Station without 1 above.
3. Issue Fixed Penalty Notices.
4. Point a gun and shout "Taser, Taser, Taser".
5. Make a distinction between sex on duty and sex off duty.

Should do well.

Maybe were heading towards a more 'Soviet' style of policing.

From The Old Jokes Home.

A visitor to Moscow once asked why Russian policemen went around in threes.
He was told
" Well there's one who can read, one who can write and one to keep an eye on these two dangerous intellectuals"

You laugh about dyslexia - there's serving police officers in London with that. I also knew of a female PC in south london that had dyspraxia and behaved in the weirdest ways at times. The quota system that Macpherson ushered in is mostly to blame and people should remember that the real reason for PCSO's is to increase the percentage of police staff (including officers)thata re employed by each force and belong to particular categories based on race, ability, gender, sexuality and creed. Really - it is so! In this case the selction criteria was probably stamped 'accepted' because of his surname.

Oh, I think that might be beyond this one...

"and one to keep an eye on these two dangerous intellectuals."

Heh!

"The quota system that Macpherson ushered in is mostly to blame..."

Macpherson has a lot to be held accountable for. But never will be.
