Sometimes, It's Nice To Get Closure...

Remember this story, back in Feb?
A man has pleaded guilty to 18 offences after going on an axe rampage in which he threatened to kill two women in Billericay. Paul Hyde, 46, appeared at Basildon Crown Court on Friday and pleaded guilty to charges including assault, possessing an axe and 13 counts of causing criminal damage to properties and cars.
And did he have an extensive criminal record? Well, as the local paper succinctly puts it:
Hyde had 95 minor convictions against his name before "things started going wrong in 2012".
I...

I just...

*speechless*
Hyde was remanded in custody pending a full psychiatric report for his sentencing hearing at Basildon Crown Court on June 28.
I can't wait! And let's hope any sentence imposed isn't appealed later. Because, remember this story? Well, incredibly, their wonderfully accurately-named lawyer Jeremy Tricks must have had a, errr, trick up his sleeve:
But yesterday an appeal at Exeter Crown Court was successful and Jones will now be reunited with Jess who has been in RSPCA care for nearly a year.

Recorder Paul Dunkels QC told Jones: 'It was an utterly stupid for Linda Jones to have done
(sic). It is something she must never do to that dog or any other dog given such a chance.'
/facepalm

I know most people are shocked by 95 previous convictions, but here's a true story. If I have posted it before then please blame increasing old age.

A few years ago I arrested a man for shoplifting. He had over 600 convictions. He was about 65 and Scottish (not that relevant!).When he was charged I asked the Custody Sergeant not to grant bail due to his offending history. He agreed.
After a person is charged and refused bail he is entitled to call his solicitor which this angry man did.
He was on the phone and was being very loud.He said to his solicitor "I'm not getting bail, they think I have 600 convictions but i've only got 400,some b*****d in Glasgow used my name".We all collapsed with laughter. In his mind 600 previous was unacceptable but 400 was fine!

Must be heartbreaking to see the same old faces on the street, year in, year out.

Yup. It really, really does.

"We all collapsed with laughter. In his mind 600 previous was unacceptable but 400 was fine!"

I wonder where the line is crossed? At 500? At 599?

"Mr Hyde?

Pretty appropriate, what?
