Hmmm, I Don't Like Where This Might Be Going...

A New Seekers song from the 1970s will be played to college students if they are caught dropping litter.

Students at John Leggott College in Scunthorpe are being warned they will have to endure We've Got To Do It Now being played through loud speakers.
Well, until they simply walk out of earshot of them, I suppose. Or plug in their iPods...

Unless they have something more in-depth in mind?

"Unless they have something more in-depth in mind?"

Teaching the world to sing in perfect harmony? Holding it in their hands and keeping it company?

I never could stomach The New Seekers but this step is surely tantamount to emotional torture?

On a serious note, it's a step away from brainwashing. The question is, who is constantly watching the students to see if they chuck rubbish on the campus?

In my day, this would have called for sabotage.

Will they be allowed to do this before 6pm without a licence?

I'm suprised Liebour havn't brought it in on our streets yet.
Every lampost with a speaker.
Be Pure, be Vigilant, Behave !

They are using the song from a 1973 'Keep Britain Tidy' campaign? 1973?

Oh well, I can see the logic behind that. Sure to work that is.Recycling gone mad I tell you.

How about -
'Helping to put the c*nt back in Scunthorpe since 1973'

Chuckles, I was that c*nt, I went to JLC between '74 and '77, and in my time (Sue) there would indeed have been sabotage, rampant piss-taking and retaliatory action directed at the staff room... :)

Anon, they already have them.
I read a story last year where a person almost jumped out of their skin, when a voice from a lampost said something along the lines of-

Oy You! Pick up that litter and put it in the bin!

It had been fitted with CCTV and a speaker.

Well musical psy ops worked against Noriaga in Panama didn't it. The Yanks played non stop Heavy metal at him till he cracked and gave up.
On the other hand, a bloke who invented a device that emits a high pitched whine that only teenagers can hear and was being pitched to shopkeepers fed up with da youth hanging around in their doorways has found the authorities have banned its use.
But playing classical music is deemed ok, and appears to be almost as effective in shifting the little buggers!

PS
Given the chronic blandness of the X Factor and Britain's got Talent generated music scene of today,
The Youth may actually LIKE the New Seekers!!

:D

"The question is, who is constantly watching the students to see if they chuck rubbish on the campus?"

And is it a university post or do they contract it out?

"Will they be allowed to do this before 6pm without a licence?"

Heh! Wouldn't be the first time someone fell foul of that one, would it?

Now, that's spooky...

Somr city centres have them already, as RAB points out..

"...in my time (Sue) there would indeed have been sabotage, rampant piss-taking and retaliatory action directed at the staff room... :)"

Oh, absolutely! It'd be a badge of honour to sabotage this sort of thing.

Students today *shakes head sadly*

"But playing classical music is deemed ok..."

Some Tube stations have been doing it, to 'discourage misbehaviour'. Well, it's cheaper than having guards, isn't it?
