Malware Warnings...

Apologies to anyone who got a malware warning from their PC regarding visiting this blog - I got one too! But only using Chrome on a PC - I get no issues with tablet or iPhone version of Chrome, or from Internet Explorer.

It seems to be an issue connected to the recent hacking attempt at 'Counting Cats..' and they are trying to resolve it in case it is a real issue and not just Google being over sensitive...

On a related issue:
There is an add-on to Firefox - and probably other browsers - called WOT or "Web of Trust" where users can rate sites for whether or not they are dangerous for malware, security etc. If a site is rated too badly then severe warnings come up which would put off most casual surfers from going there.
It sounds reasonable in principle but it is now being abused by people who simply don't like a site's controversial content. For example it's happening on a lot of sites which question global warming or the medical consensus on HIV.
Two things - if you do use WOT - or anything like it - be aware that some people are abusing the system purely because they don't like the message of the site and secondly if you do use something like WOT then take a second or two to vote up sites on controversial issues which you know to be safe but might be attacked in this way.
Web of Trust know that this is a problem but wash their hands of it and refuse to do anything themselves.

Ditto. Just can't be too careful.

"Ghostery, Adblock and Noscript"

All of which advise...albeit prior to download or installation...that they can:

Access your data on all websites
Access your tabs and browsing activity

So, what's the point ? *genuine question*.

Is it a bit like voting - you get to choose your next dictator :)

Curiously I am being asked to complete a security check before I am allowed access to 4liberty.org.uk.

I normally use Seamonkey (the direct descendant of Netscape and the rather neglected cousin of Firefox) and am encountering no problems.

"Malware" detection seems to be a pretty inexact science, unfortunately. I am still unable to access Harry's Place and was until recently unable to access the main EDL site, both of which are/were "protected" by CloudFlare, whose interception page does not explain the lockout.

Longrider's site is protected by a filter service (I forget whose) which intermittently locks me out on the basis of my IP address. My public IP address, that is, which belongs to the red-side ports of T-Mobile's router and is outside my control, being shared dynamically with other T-Mobile customers, one of whom may, or possibly may not, be up to something naughty.

I'm currently getting a login warning to LR's site from Cloudflare, although I can access it via proxy server OK. When I've finished what I'm currently doing I will re-boot the router and see what happens. This will allocate a different IP address from a pool of numbers, so may solve the problem.

Update - rebooted the router, and then restarted my browser to clear the cache and Longrider's blog is now loading OK.

Google chrome threw me out and I had to enter at my own risk. I have Norton 360 which stops most bugs..

I'm shocked that people would abuse this. Shocked, I say!

:/

"Curiously I am being asked to complete a security check before I am allowed access to 4liberty.org.uk."

Now, I'm not getting that - which is odd. Can you let me know what browser you are using, and I'll pass it along to the site admin.

"I normally use Seamonkey (the direct descendant of Netscape.."

Ah! My very first browser, Netscape. Happy memories.. :)

I've had issues posting comments to Longrider's site on occasion, too. Always via my phone or tablet, though. Never PC.

And not recently, so maybe he's updated something.
