Author Zadie Smith has called the UK's continued detention of women in Yarl's Wood detention centre an "offence to liberty" and a "shame to any civilised nation" as she joins the campaign by Women for Refugee Women to end the practice.
A campaign led by
all the usual suspects…
Campaigners Shami Chakrabarti and Caroline Criado-Perez will speak alongside Meltem and other ex-detainees at the gathering outside the Home Office on Thursday evening.
I can’t see either Shami or Caroline volunteering to stand bail for these women, or better yet, offer to sponsor them while their applications go through, can you?

It's quite siimple. Signatories of the petition or whatever to back their calls for release with the use of their spare room and a bond which says they will be answerable for the refugee until the matter is decided one way or another.
Let'em put their money where their mouths are and we might have something to discuss. Plus, the refugees will have someone to care for them other than G4S.

I thought we could have a swap, the libertarians have a land mass where they can live and develop and one for the socialists. With anyone who has a change of heart can swap at any stage. Then after ten years the two groups can be analysed and lets see how the two groups have fared. My money is that millions of socialists will have died for the common good and the libertarians while not agreeing with each on some things will have vital services sorted out and some damn good craft breweries. Can we try it?
They can have their Julian Assange moment if they really try !

I think your assessment of the socialists' prospects is spot on!
