Thank You For Not Smoking Stabbing Anyone…

The mother of a teenager who lost his life to violent crime has thanked young Londoners who took part in a 100-day truce.
Did anyone notice? I certainly didn’t!

And it seems we had plenty of street hoodrats settling scores the usual way for the duration.
Margaret Mizen’s son Jimmy, 16, died after his killer hurled a glass dish at him during an attack in Lee, south-east London, in 2008. Last night, she was joined by Grace Idowu, whose son David, 14, was fatally stabbed in Southwark the same year, and 1,000 young people at a Jimmy Mizen Foundation concert at the Indig02.
Attended by Mayor Boris Johnson and X Factor winner Shayne Ward, the concert marked the end of their “100 days of peace” campaign, inspired by a tradition in ancient Greece where hostilities ceased during the Olympics.
And what do they plan to do now? Why, another pointless gesture! How surprising!
Mrs Mizen and Mrs Idowu have now launched a new campaign, Release the Peace, which aims to curb gangs by helping youngsters unleash their creativity. Mrs Mizen, 60, said teenagers at risk of joining gangs needed to be “nurtured and given the love and care they need” .
She said: “Some of them will make great leaders if we can coerce them into the right path.”
I don’t think I’ll be hugging these hoodies, love.
Mrs Mizen said: “We talk about actions and consequences because a lot of these young people who carry knives don’t think of the consequences. They don’t think that if they take out a knife they could be going to prison for 25 years. ”
That’s because it rarely if ever goes down like that.

Maybe that’s where you should be targeting your efforts?

XX teenagers at risk of joining gangs needed to be “nurtured and given the love and care they need” . XX

I have heard they get plenty of that from "Matilda" and "Doris" the ex dockers, their erstwhile "cell mates", whilst inside.... so where is the problem?

Longer sentences supported by Mrs Mizen? They would be a start. Although some don't want to learn.

To be fair the Mizen family are decent respectable Christians whose son was killed by a piece of scum (well known to me).It wasn't one gangster killing another (Or NHI).
Like a lot of people that are genuinely trying to do well she is probably wasting her time with the feral scum of South London, but at least she's trying and it must help her cope with her loss.

And so should never be released.

Probably, but when she's the 'go to' spokesperson for youth violence, I worry.

Furor matey, your last re 'respectable Christians' has to be the most stupid thing you've ever spouted on here - and you do spout an enormous amount of shite.

The point Jaded is making is that the Mizen family are trying desperately to deal with the senseless murder of their son by a piece of human shit that had been allowed to develop into the turd he was by a criminal justice system that is weak and useless.

That they (and other families similarly affected) claim to forgive their child's killer is beyond me and I also cannot believe that they don't lie awake at night dreaming of slowly killing them whilst inflicting the most pain possible.

Yes, such campaigns are pointless as JuliaM points out and are a waste of any money, especially taxpayer's money. The Mizens have been sucked in to the leftist mentality which loves to spend money and time on such things.

JuliaM is right and their should be a huge campaign to place pressure on the government to ensure that sentences reflect the crimes and that sentences are served in full....FOR STARTERS.
