A scheme to help teenage mums get into work is being launched in Barking and Dagenham. My Mummies Future (sic) will allow 30 women aged between 16 and 19 to gain opportunities within the health and beauty sector.I don’t know if any readers are familiar with Barking and Dagenham, but one thing it’s not short of is these sort of shops…
Elsie Akinloluwa, the project’s office manager, said the scheme is necessary as teenage pregnancy in the borough is among the highest in London.
“We are working to empower young mothers who may feel like they have been left without any prospects and give them a taste of getting into training or education,” she said.
“We want to show them that they don’t have to sit at home and do nothing but take benefits.”I fear the only people who will be gainfully employed as a result of this scheme are the likes of Elsie.
Still, at least we aren’t paying for it:
Free day care will be available during the nine week workshop which has been paid for by Big Lottery funding. At least, not this time.

My Mummies Future? That's patronising claptrap to begin with
"I don’t know if any readers are familiar with Barking and Dagenham..."
Yes, unfortunately.
Dark prospects, indeed. But what is being done for the 11/15yr olds who represent the fastest growing group of Barking and Dagenham muvvers?
Finance required to counter this neglect will make Big Lottery funding equate to peanuts. Perhaps we should start sending cash hampers anonymously...or elect to pay more Council Tax.
Health and beauty salons are almost neck and neck with charity shops on the high street, its all the buggers want to do, nothing else but nail bars and fucking about like that.
If they didn't get benefits they wouldn't stay at home and would probably take care NOT to fall pregnant.
In other news, the Education Committee decided to add Do-It-Yourself Vasectomy lessons to the 4th-year boys' biology curriculum.

Are you sure?
I say send in Father O'Malley to thrash the skin off these whores.
of course we pay just stop buying lottery tickets

"a taste of getting into training or *education*"-my italics.
When the Project ManagerESS has a surname that has more vowels than consonants or that sounds like a mangled Hawaiian greeting, I suppose we should expect nothing else.
And why does everyone need to be 'empowered' these days? Sounds to me as if the young ladies in question have had more than enough 'empowering to take control of their sexuality' etc to begin with.
"Yes, unfortunately."
It's become a toilet, hasn't it? :( Wish I could persuade my mother to move...
"Are you sure?"
Oh, the government/council is probably chipping in too...
