Gesture Politics Writ Small…

Jimmy Savile’s corpse should be exhumed and his remains cremated following complaints from other people who have loved ones buried in the same cemetery…
According to whom?!?
… a Tory councillor claimed.
Oh, for….

Who is this clown?
Coun Colin Haddington spoke out as his civic colleagues voted unanimously to immediately strike Savile’s name from Scarborough Council’s roll of honour and posthumously revoke his freedom of the Borough once the police investigation is over.
And…if the police investigation should prove him innocent? What then? Or is that considered to be such an unlikely result that there’s no point in worrying about it?
But council leaders said there was no point in investigating the idea of an exhumation because the decision on his final resting place is a matter for his family and the church authorities.
Oh. I see. Not because it’s an utterly insane idea and puts you on a level with those medieval European peasants that put animals on ‘trial’ for murder, then?
Coun Haddington said: “I have been contacted by one of my constituents whose granddaughter is buried close to Savile.
“This has caused her enormous concern and the family a great deal of distress. My constituent has asked me to put her family at ease – if the body could be exhumed, taken a short distance to the crematorium, and cremated.”
And did it not occur to you to simply suggest to this delicate soul that she really should have more important things to worry herself about?

The dead are dead. They can’t be hurt, or embarrassed, or shamed.

Or don’t they value blunt, plain speaking in Yorkshire any more?

Update: And (thanks to Edwin Greenwood) just when you think that’s the stupidest thing you’re going to read about this, think again!
Former West Yorkshire Police detective John Stainthorpe said the disgraced presenter was a suspect in the notorious case more than 30 years ago… Mr Stainthorpe, who spent 40 years in the force, told ITV's Calendar News: "When the Ripper was really active, one of the suspects put forward by the public was, in fact, Jimmy Savile.
"Obviously, it was not he, but he was interviewed along with many others."
I…

I just….
Mr Stainthorpe said the person who gave police the anonymous tip-off was "aiming in the right direction".
"Child perverts soon become child killers," he added.
Well, not really, because the Ripper targeted adult women, and Savile isn't alleged to have killed anyone.

Yet.

*gives up on humanity*

Bugger! Saville will be gutted.

So with the revocation of freedom, Saville can no longer enjoy rights he could no longer enjoy.

Being dead.

Julia,

There may be legs in the Ripper connection, looks very iffy to me. Police even took dental impressions from Saville at the time.

One of the victims was found dead just yards from Saville's house, then Saville becomes mates with Sutcliffe and regularly visited him and gave him money.

Like I said, iffy.

No point digging him up though.

All we have at present are allegations. Yet there are noisemakers running around like everything has been proven beyond reasonable doubt. If you read Anna Raccoons little series of posts, the connection with her old care facility seems pretty tenuous.

You mean the family of a deceased person is worried that the deceased may have their feelings hurt? I'm sorry but they are dead and if they were ever picky they are well past it now. I wonder though now this witchhunt is under way why nobody at all media or otherwise thought it prudent to mention it at the time, when , you know, it might actually have done any good? Now I have no time at all for kiddie fiddlers etc but based on the number of "accusations" etc how did they find time to do anything else? The media would always be eager to come down on this sort of thing and yet now we have 20/20 hindsight?

To be fair to Saville, if they're going to dig him up they'd have to dig up all other dead convicted (or suspected) kiddie fiddlers.

How long before corpses need a CRB check? You know, just to be on the safe side.

Yeah let the idiots dig him up and burn the remains. Then they can go and dig up all other such criminals and burn them. Then what? Maybe a law named after a child of an idiot to make it mandatory for all paedo criminals to be burnt... Or we could just tell the idiots to fuck off.

Dear Coun Colin Haddington,

I am very worried about my grandmother, who is buried on the same planet as Sir Jimmy Savile.

For all I know, he could be putting her in a school uniform and doing despicable things to her right now.

I demand that you personally exhume his remains and put them in a rocket and fire it to some peado-friendly galaxy.

The thought he could be looking up her nightdress fair makes me shiver.

People say I'm fucking stupid and that you will listen to me, so that's why I am writing.

Yours, &c.

Perhaps as usual with the media the actual facts are being distorted.

My Father, Grandparents and Great Uncles ashes are there, and Mum goes to the rose garden to remember them. Having a load of press or vandal nutters running around would definitely cause her some concern also.

How the HEL does HE know what the Grand-Daughter thinks? Unless he consults a medium, of course.

Burn them... burn them all.

By the way, anyone noticed yet just how uncomfortably close this witch trial is getting to real actual witch trials of old? Next we'll be ducking suspected paedos in the local pond.

Indeed. It's just the futility of the whole thing. What does it matter?

"Police even took dental impressions from Saville at the time."

I doubt he was the only one.

And if we are banging up people for their associations with known bad 'uns, it's a good thing for Princess Margaret that she's dead...

" If you read Anna Raccoons little series of posts.."

I did indeed, and rated them 'post of the month'. Hell, of the year!

"How long before corpses need a CRB check?"

Heh!

"People say I'm fucking stupid and that you will listen to me, so that's why I am writing."

Quite!

Vandals, perhaps. Especially in light of the former residence vandalism in Scotland.

But press? What, are they hoping for an interview!?

"How the HEL does HE know what the Grand-Daughter thinks?"

:D

"By the way, anyone noticed yet just how uncomfortably close this witch trial is getting to real actual witch trials of old? "

Well, quite! As (I think) MacHeath commented on another thread:

"i saw goody dickerson dancing with the devil!"
