Sure, Let’s Erode The Concept Of Personal Responsibility A Little Further…

The death of a 12-year-old girl on a Milton Keynes grid road has sparked a debate over whether extra safety measures are needed on the city's grid roads.
Such as...?

Well, of course, all the usual suspects - 20mph limits and barriers.

Why barriers? Did a car veer off the road?
We've been speaking with one of our readers on Twitter, who said: "I do that route regularly & adults & kids all cross the road risking life & limb it needs barriers! "
*sighs*

Nowadays I often see the sheeple standing at a crossing, waiting for the lights to change and the beeper to tell them it's safe to cross, even though there are no vehicles within 20 seconds of the crossing. Obviously all cars must be banned instantly, in case one more life is snuffed out - without a crossing it's just not safe for "modern" idiot-folk to avoid cars.

Call the road Darwin Straight and consider pedestrians warned.

V8 is one of the main highways through the city. You really don't expect pedestrians on it - there are plenty of underpasses.
Check out this Google Maps satellite view of V8 east of Netherfield and note all the underpasses, more than one per road junction: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Netherfield,+Milton+Keynes+MK6/@52.021061,-0.7264768,1079m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x4876552b463389d1:0x8304718ec26caa02
If the Golf driver had blown through a red light then sure, heap derision on his head. But I wonder if the fatality was due to a reluctant to walk 100m or so to an underpass.

That was probably me after just I've come back from holiday. It takes a few days to get back in the swing of things, especially the traffic being on the correct side of the road and having seen plod ticketing pedestrians for jumping the lights.

Must be visiting Singaporeans... ;)

"Call the road Darwin Straight and consider pedestrians warned."

That would require them to know who Darwin was!

"But I wonder if the fatality was due to a reluctant to walk 100m or so to an underpass."

Yup! I'd bet my bottom dollar on it.
