An IT expert who worked for some of Britain’s top law firms died after taking seven times the “normal” recreational amount of ecstasy at an illegal rave in an abandoned police station, an inquest heard. Thus proving intelligence in one field isn’t necessarily carried over to any other…
Imdre Valiokaite, a friend of Mr Carlton-Smith, said: “He didn’t take drugs regularly — only at raves. We were on the stairs and a man in a hood asked if we wanted some coke. Max took off with the guy and that was the last time I saw him.”Wait, wait…
There we go!
The coroner said he would write a letter to Home Secretary Theresa May to advise on more stringent powers for police to shut down illegal raves.
Recording a narrative verdict, he said: “He had taken MDMA at an illegal rave and had collapsed after being in a drug-induced trance. He did not immediately receive medical aid. He died at 6.23am. His death was a drug overdose.”I expect the police will be delighted to have the powers to ‘shut down illegal raves’, with all the resultant drain on manpower that will entail, all because some idiot wanted to score illegal drugs.
It’s clear to see where he got his smarts, though. It was his dear ol’ mum:
Max’s mother Linda Carlton-Smith said: “This will not bring Max back, but I hope the report will help save the lives of other young people and mean his death was not in vain.
“I hope in future the organisers would be less greedy and have proper health and safety and security in place. As for the man who sold the MDMA he took, which he took on top of the MDMA he had brought with him, how can you live with yourself?”Well, love, he’s a dealer in illegal drugs, so expecting him to have a social conscience is like expecting illegal rave organisers to be clued up on the latest requirements for legitimate businesses.
Or even like expecting a recreational drug user to have some common sense about buying unregulated crap from street dealers.
Oh. Whoops. How insensitive of me.
expecting a recreational drug user to have some common sense about buying unregulated crap from street dealers
Well, Boots is shite these days, and Superdrug is a misniomer if ever I heard one.
Amateurs like Mr Carlton-Smith provide yet another reason for an armistice in the War on Drugz.
Any kiddies reading this must understand - you are taking part in a clinical drugs trial, except you are paying for it, but you get to choose the dosage. Choose wisely.
I disagree vehemently with you, Julia, because you could go through that article and replace the appropriate words with 'gin'.
And they are just lining up to put an extra £20 on your bottle of Hendrick's to 'protect' people 'for their own good' because it's 'dangerous'.
Maybe we should just let them do as they want and let Darwin do the selecting. We might even end up with a better selection of people, you never know.
What the FUCK is an "illegal rave?????"
O.K, if they do not have permission of the owner of the property, then that is illegal.
But NOT because it happens to be some party or other.
Since WHEN did a party on private property need permission from the dictaorship?
You flatter me.
It is inevitable that people find that something make them feel good, they think that more will make you feel even better.
I hope that I am not alone in finding this with chocolate. sex, crisps and alcohol, once I was wealthy and old enough to do what I wanted.
If we were honest with people, we'd say that they (drugs) make you feel great. Until you know what you're doing, that's it. Stop it right there. It could be argued that the drugs themselves mute this message, but that is because it has not been taught.
We are too scared to tell people when they are starting out that drugs are great, but you can only get so stoned. Beyond that, you can't appreciate or remember what happened, and you might kill yourself.
You can easily substitute alcohol in that paragraph and it holds true.
I want someone to explain to me why marijuana and LSD, which cannot kill you, are considered noxious.

Had, PAST tense, a mate who's idea of a great weekend was to get so stoned on vallis, that on Monday he could not remember Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
For him, if he did, it was a failed weekend.
the druggoes I've known have done so because that's what they decided to do.
I don't mind overdosing on 25-hour flights, but you cannot easily kill yourself on benzodiazapines alone.

They tend to be in squats (commercial buildings preferred), or on farmer's fields without permission.
"I want someone to explain to me why marijuana and LSD, which cannot kill you, are considered noxious."
Because I don't want my train driver to be tripping so hard he misses a red light.
