Who Says The Age Of Superstition Is Now Past?

Demolishing the house where Tia Sharp was sexually assaulted and murdered will prevent it from becoming a sick “tourist” attraction, a local councillor has said.
I...

I just...

Well, no wonder we have a housing crisis!
Councillor Simon Hall worries the site will receive the sort of interest which followed other prominent murder cases, such as the Gloucester home of serial killers Fred and Rosemary West.
“I don’t feel it’s right to expect anyone to live in the house or to have it potentially as a place which attracts undue attention over the months or years to come,” he said.
Why not ask all those legions of homeless whether they'd be happy to live there?
Croydon Council plans to eventually replace the house where Tia was killed with new homes.
“It is our intention to demolish the properties at 19, 20 and 21 The Lindens, New Addington, as soon as we can,” a spokesman said.
“We then plan to build family homes in their place.”
Good news for whoever's got the contract with the council. Bad news for the Croydon taxpayer.

Not sure why they're saying that about the West's house. It was demolished soon after conviction for the same reason.

Seems to be the thing to do now days... same with the Phillpot house and the one at Soham.

And yet the police seem blissfully happy to take away other artefacts to display their Black Museums.

At least 10 Rillington Place was allowed to stand for almost 20 years before the wrecking crews turned up... they even managed to make the movie there too.

Won't work. We have all seen the movies, read the old Stephe King style books, where houses are built on old red indian burial sites.... :-) :-)

"Bad land man!! They will come and GET you in the night, when it's dark, and no one is there to hear you .... scream."

Simon Hall need have no fear. Nobody in his right mind would venture into that ghastly, pebbledashed dump.

You are not expecting people to live there. They can always decline.

There was a house back where I come from. Nice area, but Pater had gone batshit and killed everybody. That house has been sold a couple of times in the past thirty years since it happened.

Everyone knew the history of the house. It never prevented it from reaching a price in line with its merits.

However, this principle does not apply here. It's not like we are talking about real money. Someone earned it and it was confiscated for the council. Which will squander it.

And it's all ours, d'you hear me? Ours, ours, ours! Mwahahahahaha!

They also demolished the house where Brady and Hindley lived, the council put it back up for rent but all the nutters wanted to live there. So the council knocked it down for that reason.

I'm, not sure they had much choice - didn't the police search remove so much of the foundation it was too much to repair?

Yes. Curious. Who decides what's an 'abomination' and what's an 'exhibit'?

I think the average poltergeist or manitou would flee Croydon in horror...

"Everyone knew the history of the house. It never prevented it from reaching a price in line with its merits."

I've no idea if any horrible crimes happened in any of the houses I ever lived in. Nor would I care. They're just inanimate objects!

The Amytiville Horror house is still standing.

It has been said that the whole thing was a scam designed to avoid a hefty mortgage. Which is actually quite cool.

Peter Sutcliffe's house was demolished. And the house in Cleveland in which Amanda Berry et al were held captive is to be bulldozed also.
