Quote Of The Month

From NickM at 'Counting Cats...' :
I shall have a drink when Maggie dies (I think there is a fair chance I shall out-live her). It will not be in celebration (a vile idea) but in memory of a great life. And also for the PM who defined my formative years.

Ben Elton is rather like the curate's egg - good in parts. He did help write "The Young Ones" which appealed to the anarchic side of me. On the other hand, I recall when he was selected to stand in for Terry Wogan on his talk show. He had promised really deep converations with his guests and would pull no punches. What the viewers received was some Uriah Heep in glasses who was so far up the guests noses, I'm surprised he didn't have haemmorhoids on the end of his nose. I suffered a couple of novels he had written - cliched, stock characters with a storyline which could be seen 20 pages earlier. Initially, he was a young, Lefty. Then he became wealthy and realised, like all lefties who find a bit of cash in their bank accounts, that there was something in capitalism after all. Of course, again like all lefties, he couldn't openly embrace the philosophy he had slated for some many years so became what they all become. A hypocrite!
