There are such things as solid slug rounds for use in shotguns. Whether this was one I don't know.

If he was hit by a 12 gauge shotgun 'slug' he might be wounded very seriously indeed. Solid shotgun slugs are very nasty things.

I saw a youtub video of a pump action shotgun loaded with solid rounds. The firepower was awesome! Your online hunters wouldn't have any recognisable trophies if they used those!

12-bore rifled slugs are intended as a last resort controller of rogue hippos, rhinos etc. If a person were hit with one at close range, it would be rather messy - albeit very effective.

Also, in the UK we have 12-bore, 16-bore etc shotguns. The term "xx-guage" is another one of those nasty americanisms creeping in from the land of the rebel colonials.

Please, Daily Mail, remember we are British and write accordingly.

Oh yes, I'm well aware of the existence of solid slugs. Made great use of them in my hunting games!

But he was a clay pigeon shooter. If he was doing it with those, he must have been a better shot than Annie Oakley... :D
