It was nearly twice the size of Mum (or Dad) and standing in a heap of easily-obtainable discarded food waste, oblivious, squawking demands that its parent do the hard work...
I was reminded of that reading this:
Val, 45, works in a supermarket and receives staff discount. But she shops elsewhere because it’s cheaper and she needs her money to go further to ensure her daughter Anastasia, 21, does not go short on food.Yes, you read that right. 21. Now, there's a pic of 'Anastasia'. She doesn't look incapable of finding her own food to me...
The financial strain has left Paul suffering from depression. Val says: “It’s painful to see the man I love come home from a long shift, say ‘I can’t do this any more’ and curl into a foetal position on the floor.”I don't blame him. Time Anastasia flew the nest, then..?

Sorry Anthony Curley, but if you ran up £80k of debt getting a degree from the former Preston Poly you are a complete berk.
Bloody hell, there are some sob stories in that article.
I see the ex-student living in poverty on 16k a year does not tell us what his degree is in.
I'm sure that if he had done his research before studying for a degree, he would have picked something that is in demand and would have a related job by now.
Didn't she have a singing career once?
Well, she can be proud that Anastasia has definitely not gone short of food.
Val the supermarket worker on £28k a year (Wassat about £550 a week give or take)? And yet she can't afford blah...blah.. blah?
Well here's a heads up Val, I recommend you take a little trip down the chemist and see if he'll mix you up a really big batch of "Harden the fuck up"!!
People like her really need taking to one side and having their head slammed in the door a time or 2.
As for "Anthony", he pays half his £16k a year wage in rent to share a flat in Liverpool?
What?? He lives in a flat that rents out for £16k a year?? In fucking Liverpool??
Anthony needs to have a word with himself and give himself a shake.
To be fair Budvar, I read that 28K a year figure as representing household income (her and her husband). I think her wages were reported as about £1,000 a month after tax. Still not breaking my heart over it.

Mr Budvar your amounts aren't correct but your sentiment is absolutely spot on. Val the supermarket worker who is bothered about her fat daughter not going hungry pulls in £1k a month not £28k a year. The daughter is still ugly and useless though.
As Anonymous has stated at 12:56 Mr Curley has wracked up £80k's worth of debt at Preston Poly as was, my MSc from the same place cost me £4.5k and it has improved my earnings no end. Back to Mr Curley, if he did a three year degree and had fees of £3k a year, which sounds reasonable he has £71k living costs for three years. Which equates to £23k approx. which is untaxed, so he has lived like someone on £30k a year and earning. Didn't do a numerate degree did he.
@Bucko
I beg to disagree. Specialising in something at an undergraduate level doesn't necessarily mean that you'll be destined for a career even tangentially related to it.
However, I assume that he took a soft course (how many Physics graduates work in call centres?) and am speechless at the debt that he was allowed to run up.
Which he resents paying back. And I also assume that Anthony Curley thinks it's all Thatcher's fault.
I was astonished, having graduated, that nobody (I mean, nobody) has ever asked to see my degree, and most of my managers never had one themselves.
"My family work in the public sector and, because they haven’t had pay rises, they are really struggling"
It is because they don't (or more likely, can't) get better jobs. £80K cannot mitigate, let alone cure mental retardation, it seems.
"I see the ex-student living in poverty on 16k a year does not tell us what his degree is in."
I think we can guess...!
"People like her really need taking to one side and having their head slammed in the door a time or 2."
I was thinking some other organ, myself...
"And I also assume that Anthony Curley thinks it's all Thatcher's fault."
Undoubtedly!
