Mono Vision

Gary Younge certainly has it!
No sooner had the court pronounced racism dead than its skeleton emerged from cupboards galore and started doing the can-can on primetime.
He’s talking about the Trayvon Martin case. Though note that he’s not talking about doughy and truculent prosecution witness Jeantel’s blithe use of racial epithets like 'cracker', oh dear me no.

Only white people can be racist, innit?
Zimmerman weighs 250lbs and had a 9mm handgun; Martin, 17, weighed 140lbs and had a packet of Skittles and a can of iced tea.
Strangely, that slight build and sweetie-munching disposition didn't prevent him building up a rather troubling record, did it?
Even as the lofty eulogies are prepared for an ailing Nelson Mandela we should not forget that former US vice-president Dick Cheney branded him the leader of a terrorist group in 1986…
Maybe because, by any standards, he was….?

Gary Younge, the Guardianistas' fave black racist pin-up, has really got the hump. The prosecution case against 'white Hispanic' Zimmerman is disintegrating. Gazza ought to pop over to see his BBC chums; they've stopped reporting a trial they were previously all over...when it looked like 'white racism' & they thought they had Zim in the slammer. Boo hoo, Gazza, go & have a bloody good cry with the beeboids. Hang on a mo', though, aren't they 'hideously white'...or even 'cracker'? Nah, all a social construct mate, surely...I know, I'll ask Diane Abbott.

I didn't think I'd ever say this - but I do think racism is dying .. here anyway. The majority of people in the UK have accepted that multi-culturalism is here to stay. Yes, we all get angry over the number of immigrants flooding into the Country, but I don't think that's necessarily racism because we'd be just as outraged if it were little green men from another planet coming here and claiming benefits ... I suppose you could call that racism too if you really wanted.

No, to me one of the countries where the discrimination is still strongest is Africa itself, although it's tribal discrimination rather than racial discrimination over there. Since apartheid ended (and I'm firmly of the opinion that apartheid was a bad thing for all) the tribalism seems to have increased - although the media have had us concentrate on the other, more positive things going on over there. Personally, I think the place is a powder keg, waiting only for Mandelas passing to trigger the eruption.

So back to the original point - is racism dead? - well, no it will never totally die .. not whilst the minority interest groups can make money out of it.

Just how can a man with a German surname be described as a "white Hispanic"?

Racism will never die - it's too much of a meal ticket for professional hypocrites like Gary Younge.

AndrewWS,

Peruvian Amerindian mother apparently.

"Hispanic" is a pretty meaningless term anyway. Mestizo, white, or Amerindian are more accurate broad categories for the non-black population of Central and South America.

If Hispanic was in any way an accurate term then Fernando Torres or Shakira would belong to the same ethnic category as Hugo Chavez or Evo Morales.

racism has died the way that it has died in the usa and China and africa etc.

I would say he has chips on both shoulders, but from the looks of his mugshot, no chip survives long that close to his mouth...

Agreed.

But the hard-of-thinking love their labels so...
